Hart favourite to take on Southampton

Because weekend rumours suggesting the likes of Gianfranco Zola and Glenn Hoddle, there are likely to be one or two Southampton fans a tad underwhelmed at the reports that the Saints have approached Paul Hart to be their new manager.

Despite a resounding 4-0 win at Bristol Rovers on Saturday, Alan Pardew was shown the door at St Mary's amid suggestions the club felt they needed to make a change in order to achieve their ambitions.

The tabloids had a field day suggesting former West Ham boss Zola was on his way to the South Coast, while ex-England gaffer Hoddle - who had a short spell in charge of Saints nine years ago - was also said to be in the running.

But despite those links, everything looks set for Hart to take over the reins at St Mary's.
The 57-year-old has had his hands on a few poisoned chalices lately, managing financially-challenged Portsmouth, spending just five games on the managerial conveyor belt at QPR and then steering Crystal Palace to safety on the last day of last season after the club's season was blighted by going into administration.

The Saints are currently [4.0] favourites to win League One despite the current turmoil, although they have generally been on the drift since the start of the season having been backed at a low of [3.0].

Smoke and mirrors. Hart may be on a shortlist but wouldn't be surprised if there are 1 or 2 outsiders on there as well and that Saints will spring yet another surprise on us. Just hope it's a good one!

Hart would be a disaster for Southamtpton of Lowe like proportions. Hart has no track record to speak of has won nothing and is basically a back room boy who got a lucky break and found himself in the management hot seat on fine morning.
Ask any fan, and they would sooner have kept Pardew who in any case wa popular with the fans.
Cortese is making a habit of shooting himself in the foot.
First he inexplicably gives the club a bad name with the world's press and now this piece of sheer adminstrative folly.
I have a nasty feeling that he has an over inflated ego and that could easily spell disaster for the club.
