Alternate bets for the Owls' Spireites test

Sheffield Wednesday Photo

We've already told you we fancy Sheffield Wednesday to come out on top in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy game against Chesterfield tonight. So why not explore some of the other markets available? Here are just three...

Back under 2.5 goals

Don't let Chesterfield's 5-5 draw with Crewe at the weekend fool you - the Spireites will have a far harder task of breaking down Sheffield Wednesday this evening. The Owls may be without a win in three games at home, but they have only conceded two goals in those games. In fact, only two of Wednesday's last ten home matches have ended with three goals or more scored. Back under 2.5 goals at [1.99].

Back a Sheffield Wednesday clean sheet

We fancy the Owls to win, and we also like the look of under 2.5 goals - we have to back the clean sheet really! Wednesday have only conceded two goals at home in the league this season, and should have enough to keep Chesterfield out. Admittedly, the Spireites have only failed to score once on the road this term, but they have yet to face anyone of the calibre of Alan Irvine's men. A clean sheet for the home side is a very tempting [2.48].

Back the draw/Sheffield Wednesday
While we expect Wednesday to come out on top in this game, we expect it to be close. The Owls have been drawing at half-time in their previous four games, and with Chesterfield being 4-1 down at the break against Crewe at the weekend, they will want to keep things tight and not let the game get away from them. Backing the game to be all square at half-time, with Sheffield Wednesday coming through to bag the win, looks good at [5.4].
