The Betfair Football £10 Bet of the Day
Day 142: We're backing Plymouth to beat Swindon at [2.56]
It's a case of another day, another above evens bet for our £10 daily wager as we bid for our fourth successive winner at lengthy odds by backing Plymouth to see off Swindon at [2.56] in a League One relegation six-pointer this evening.
The consequences of administration on any club are always terrible and the same has been the case at Plymouth with news breaking earlier today that 16 members of staff have been made redundant with their shop in the city centre being closed down.
On the pitch however, the nightmare scenario has perhaps given Peter Reid's men a much-needed jolt, the ten-point penalty inflicted on the Pilgrims ensuring that they must fight for survival whereas previously they had drifted into dreadful form seemingly content to settle for bottom-half obscurity.
The response has been an end to their six-match losing streak courtesy of victories at home to play-off hopefuls Colchester and away to underachieving giants Sheffield Wednesday, and they will be confident of continuing the revival against fellow strugglers Swindon at Home Park tonight.
As if Plymouth's players needed any additional motivation, this is an opportunity to climb off the bottom at the expense of both their opponents and - should they lose to Tranmere - Bristol Rovers and, having beaten Swindon 3-2 in the reverse fixture, they have to be fancied to deliver again.
The Robins, play-off semi-final losers last season, have responded to their unexpected relegation battle by bringing in Paul Hart, but he failed to make an immediate impact as they played out a 0-0 draw against Walsall, and is unlikely to instantly remedy their dire away record of ten reverses in 16.
Our bet: We're backing Plymouth to defeat Swindon at [2.56], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £15.60. The same punt pays only £12.50 with Ladbrokes. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
