Ince expected to land Notts County job
BBC Radio Nottingham have reported that Notts County will name Craig Short's replacement on Thursday and the man widely predicted to take charge of the League One side is Paul Ince.
The Guv'nor left MK Dons at the end of last season due to dissatisfaction at the club's perceived lack of ambition but is very unlikely to have the same complaints at Meadow Lane.
Short was harshly dismissed on Sunday less than five months after being appointed by the promoted team and despite the fact they are 16th in the table, just four points off the play-offs, with the board seemingly targeting a top-six finish.
Ince has a mixed managerial record, albeit one with enough successes to indicate that he's well worth a punt at this level. In his first job, he led Macclesfield to a semi-miraculous escape from relegation out of the Football League, before guiding MK Dons to the League Two and Johnstone's Paint Trophy glory the following season.
Things turned sour when he decided to climb three leagues and succeed Mark Hughes at Blackburn and he appeared out of his depth, although in fairness he is perhaps justified to feel that he was judged too swiftly after being axed after only 17 Premier League games.
His return to MK Dons was unspectacular last term, with the club finishing a respectable 12th having reached the play-offs under Roberto Di Matteo the previous campaign.
Assuming Ince is the coach that the Magpies are hiring, he will endure a baptism of fire on Saturday when they host pre-season title favourites Southampton. They are [3.25] to defeat the Saints and [11.5] to be playing in the Championship in 2011-12.
