Bet up to £30 risk free on Charlton Athletic
Charlton's path to the Southern section Final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy looked a whole lot more straight-forward before this weekend, yet suddenly their semi-final trip to London rivals Brentford looks rather challenging.
The Bees recorded their third successive victory on Saturday with a 2-0 triumph over Southampton, who hadn't lost at St Mary's since Nigel Adkins' appointment as manager, while Charlton threw away their 11-match unbeaten run at home to League One bottom club Walsall on Sunday.
Throw in the fact that Brentford defeated Charlton 2-1 at Griffin Park in October and it's easy to see why Andy Scott's side are [2.38] favourites to win this clash between the two teams joint-top of the League One form table, however we think there's a strong case for backing the Addicks at [3.25].
Thanks to our special offer for those opening new Betfair accounts, you can bet up to £30 on this match or anything else that catches your eye within seven days of signing up and any losing wagers will be refunded, so there's no absolutely no risk involved.
Charlton, having disappointed in all three cup competitions last season, are performing far more impressively this time around and have got the job done in 90 minutes in each of their three tricky Johnstone's Paint Trophy games, whereas Brentford have required penalties in the last two rounds.
It's also significant that Brentford's recent climb up the League One table has been inspired by five straight travelling successes, while they continue to underwhelm in front of their own fans, winning none of their last three. Charlton, by contrast, have already won at several clubs whose homes have been fortress-like this season - like MK Dons, Peterborough and Luton - so won't be at all daunted.
