Brighton recovery on the cards at Woking
Brighton headed into their FA Cup first round game at home to slow-starting Blue Square South side Woking on a run of four successive victories - each without conceding, with a dozen goals scored in the process - that had seen them open up an eight-point lead in League One.
It was therefore a huge surprise that Woking ground out a goalless draw at the Withdean Stadium, even creating an opening or two to cause an even bigger upset, and while the Cards built on the result by holding Chelmsford to a 2-2 draw on Saturday, Gus Poyet's men responded badly, suffering their first loss in 12 at Hartlepool.
Poyet may choose to pluck a positive from their mini-blip - that tonight's unwanted trip to Kingfield presents them an extra opportunity to bounce back and ensure they are on top form ahead of next Tuesday's massive match away to promotion rivals Southampton, and we're confident that they will.
The Seagulls can be backed at [1.58] and it's a reasonable price given the hosts' poor record in front of their own fans. They've won just twice at home in six league games, with the last of their triumphs, against struggling Basingstoke coming over two months ago.
There have of course been two cup wins at Kingfield, against Brentwood and Eastleigh but neither were spectacular successes, both being secured by one-goal margins after second-half strikes.
Woking have become more of a threat in front of goal of late though, the tie at Brighton being the only one of their last five fixtures that they didn't net in, so we reckon they'll give the 1,000-plus supporters who regularly turn out to watch them something to cheer about - it's [1.88] that both teams score, while the half-time draw/full-time Brighton win is [4.9].
