Brighton and Port Vale sustain strong form

It was a busy night in the Football League, with both the League One and League Two frontrunners facing stern tests of their early promise.

Brighton defeated Brentford to stay at the summit of League One. A single goal from on loan Kazenga Lua Lua was enough to stop Albion succumbing to the curse of top spot and they're [6.2] to stay there. Pre-season favourites Sheffield Wednesday only managed a bore draw with Oldham, while newly-promoted Bournemouth maintained their good form with a comfortable win over Exeter to stay second.

Peterborough slipped up at home to Notts County, losing a bad-tempered encounter 3-2 and almost certainly incurring the wrath of the FA after a mass brawl after the final whistle. Charlton and Carlisle both got good wins, but Nigel Adkins's Southampton could only manage a draw away at Yeovil and Lee Clark's Huddersfield were soundly beaten 3-0 by Rochdale.

In spite of this, the Terriers and Saints remain favourites to secure promotion, priced at [2.02] and [2.2] respectively.

Meanwhile in League Two, Port Vale won the top-of-the-table clash with Shrewsbury. Summer signing Gary Roberts got the only goal in a tight contest that puts the Valiants four points clear at the summit. They're favourites to stay there too, marked at [4.9].

Chesterfield kept up the pressure on Vale with a 2-1 at Northampton, while play-off contenders Stevenage and Bury both won handsomely away from home, but third-placed Rotherham could only manage a draw at home to Bradford.

Wycombe seem to be finding their feet in League Two now, turning over struggling Barnet 4-2, but much-fancied Gillingham continue to disappoint, scraping a 0-0 home draw against penniless Southend. Tipped by many to finish the season as champions, the Gills are now priced at [24.0] to win League Two.

Fancy Brighton and Vale to still be there on top in May? Or do you think one of the chasing pack will usurp them...
