The Betfair Football £10 Bet of the Day
Day 103: We're backing over 2.5 goals when Villarreal host Sevilla at [2.08]
A lot of our recent success has come backing over 2.5 goals in games where it is priced above evens despite several trends suggesting otherwise, such as Blackpool and West Ham's clashes with Birmingham, and tonight we're going for a similar wager by backing Villarreal and Sevilla to get scoring.
Admittedly, the two sides provided only one goal when they last collided at El Madrigal in December but there is plenty of evidence pointing to that match as the exception to the general pattern, given that last season's meetings finished 3-2 and 3-0 and in theory the cup environment - this evening's encounter is a Copa del Rey quarter-final first leg - should be even more conducive to a goal glut.
That has certainly proven the case for Sevilla so far as the holders' Copa del Rey ties have all been absurdly high-scoring, with 4-0 and 6-1 wins over Real Union followed by 5-3 and 3-0 victories over moneybags Malaga.
Add up the goals in those fixtures and you have a staggering average of 5.5 goals a game, while 14 of their last 18 in all competitions have featured three or more goals. Chuck in the fact Villarreal's last two matches have ended 4-2, against fellow big clubs Valencia and Real Madrid, and you have one heck of a recipe for entertainment.
Our bet: We're backing Villarreal and Sevilla to provide over 2.5 goals at [2.08], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £10.80. The same punt pays only £8 with 888sport. Sign up for a new account now and have losing bets up to a total of £30 refunded for a week.
