Real Madrid invited to take Cassano back

As we wrote yesterday, there's quite clearly no way back for Antonio Cassano at Sampdoria now following his falling out with president Riccardo Garrone and the Genoese oil baron responded to the suggestion that the forward could rejoin Real Madrid by welcoming the possibility.

Garrone cattily remarked that: "If the Real Madrid president has the same moral values as Cassano, he can have him back."

Cassano had a turbulent spell in the Spanish capital between January 2006 and the summer of 2007, when he joined Sampdoria on loan, making a fair few enemies, but it's felt that Jose Mourinho has assumed such a position of power at the club that if he requested the 28-year-old, it could happen.

However, it remains unlikely that the Special One, even if he is as reported an admirer of the controversy-stricken creator, would request his arrival in January because - as we mentioned when they were linked with Wayne Rooney - he has claimed to be happy with the squad at his disposal.

There is expected to be plenty of interest though regardless of whether the Real Madrid rumours have substance, with Juventus, Genoa, Inter Milan, Manchester City and Liverpool all potential destinations.
