Real Madrid hit top form to thrash Malaga

There weren't many takers, least of all us, as we expected Manuel Pellegrini's side to put up a fight at his old stomping ground rather than rest his star players and accept humiliation, but those who were shrewd enough to back Real Madrid to beat Malaga 7-0 benefitted from huge odds of [70.0].

Cristiano Ronaldo ended his four-match "goal drought" in style with a hat-trick, although there was a slight scare for Jose Mourinho on an otherwise fantastic night as his top goalscorer hobbled off injured after in the immediate aftermath of grabbing his third.

This was the heaviest home win of the season in La Liga and, provided Ronaldo's problem isn't too serious, has the potential to prove a turning point for a Real Madrid team that had scored one goal or fewer in eight of their previous 11 matches as Barcelona threatened to run away with the title.

A seven-point gap still exists between the champions and last year's runners-up, however whereas Barca must visit Sevilla and Villarreal in the five-game stretch before they travel to the Bernabeu for the second Clasico of the campaign, Real Madrid face no top-six clubs in the interim period.

Despite that opportunity to close in on Pep Guardiola's men, Real Madrid remain [10.0] to finish first, with their Catalan rivals convincing [1.1] favourites.

In Thursday's night's other fixture, our Bet of the Day on Almeria and Racing Santander sharing the points was successful as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw. A £10 bet on that scoreline returned £60.80 on Betfair, compared to £50 with Stan James, Bet365 and SportingBet.

Don't take our word for it though, why not test Betfair yourself using Betchecker?
