MOT your multiple - deadlocked derby day

Every week, we pick out what we believe will prove a popular weekend multiple and put it to the test, offering another option if we're not convinced that the standout selection is the correct one.

Sunday has the potential to be the most exciting day of the season so far across Europe and there are absolutely massive derby matches taking place all over the continent.

Each has tantalisingly high-stakes, with Cardiff and Swansea battling for promotion in Wales, Roma desperate to crash Lazio's party in Italy and Real Madrid looking to sustain their La Liga lead against Atletico Madrid, so the obvious multiple is arguably a draw treble paying out £123.82 for a £2 stake.

Would we change anything about that selection? Well, we'd stick with the draw in the south Wales derby, as those encounters are notoriously tight, with four of the last eight finishing level and none of the most recent ten being won by more than one goal, while Championship top goalscorer Jay Bothroyd is out for the hosts.

A spoil-sharer is also a reasonable call in the Rome derby despite Lazio's impressive run of five consecutive victories. Roma did the double over their fierce rivals last season and the Giallorossi - runners-up in 2009-10 - finally appear to be hitting top form, losing just once in five league outings.

However, expecting Atletico Madrid to hold out for a point at the Bernabeu is almost certainly one brave call too many. Atletico haven't earned bragging rights over their neighbours since 1999, suffering defeat in 11 of their last 15 meetings, while Jose Mourinho's side have won their last four league games, scoring a sensational 19 goals in the process.

Therefore, our alternative suggestion is to back draws in Wales and Rome but punt on Real Madrid beating Atletico. That wager delivers a profit of £64.90 for a fiver outlay.
