The Betfair Football £10 Bet of the Day
Day 141: We're backing Deportivo to beat Real Sociedad at [2.28]
One of the reasons that our Bet of the Day balance sits at a very healthy £112.70 is that we collected a tidy sum last Thursday backing Almeria and Racing Santander to draw, so it's only polite that we return to the country that presented us with such a magnificent opportunity for our latest flutter.
Monday night's La Liga match pits relegation battlers Deportivo against overachieving newcomers Real Sociedad, but while the hosts have had the more disappointing campaign to date, their record at the Estadio Riazor this season is strong enough to convince us to back them at odds of [2.28].
They have lost just twice in front of their fans so far, by Almeria and Barcelona, and the manner in which they have responded to the second setback, suffered against the champions in January, has been hugely impressive, holding Sevilla and Real Madrid and recording a 1-0 win against Villarreal.
Deportivo have the most timid attack in the division, failing to score in over half of their games, so it's no surprise that they rely on a solid defence and that characteristic has been demonstrated most frequently in La Coruna, where they have shut out seven of their 12 opponents.
And even their unprolific forwards - top goalscorer Adrian Lopez Alvarez has scored just four league goals - could net against a team that have leaked more regularly on their travels than any other club besides Malaga, who are only bottom of that pile after shipping seven away to Real Madrid on Thursday.
Real Sociedad have lost nine of their last dozen on the road and have also ended up pointless on six of their last eight visits to the Estadio Riazor.
Our bet: We're backing Deportivo to beat Real Sociedad at [2.28], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £12.80. The same punt pays only £11 with Ladbrokes and Paddy Power. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
