Day 62: We're backing Deportivo to beat Osasuna at [2.88]
The last time we wrote in depth about Deportivo La Coruna on the site, it was to condemn their dreadful start to the season and argue that another defeat was on its way against Real Sociedad, and they proved us right with a 3-0 loss, extending their winless opening to the campaign to eight games.
That was just 16 days ago, but there's suddenly renewed reason for optimism at the Riazor. A few tactical tweaks by coach Miguel Angel Lotina has prompted a remarkable upsurge in form, with a draw in the away leg of their Copa del Rey tie with Osasuna followed by victories over Espanyol and Levante.
Odds of [2.88] on them celebrating a third successive triumph in the second leg against Osasuna this evening therefore look very attractive, even more so when you consider that the visitors haven't won on the road since January and have netted only once on their travels in 2010-11.
Osasuna haven't netted on their last three trips to the Riazor and while they took a point there in October, that was when Deportivo were at their worst, and was actually a decent result for the hosts given that it ended a run of three straight reverses in which they'd shipped nine goals.
Perhaps the biggest factor in Depor's turnaround is that they have finally found their shooting boots. After netting just three times in their first eight matches, with two of those strikes penalties, they have scored six in three outings, and we expect that improvement to continue tonight.
Our bet: We're backing Deportivo to beat Osasuna at [2.88], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £18.80. The same punt pays only £13.75 with Ladbrokes. Sign up for a new account now and have losing bets up to a total of £30 refunded for a week.
