The best of the Betfair football forum

In the build-up to Christmas, posters on the Betfair football forum are arguing as to which of the Premier League or La Liga is better, a great way of settling that long-standing debate has been put forward and a strong case for backing Nottingham Forest to win the Championship has been presented...

"Get Barcelona to win La Liga at odds of [1.56] to [1.59] (before it plunges to [1.3] or lesser)" - AliBaba888

"Barcelona wouldn't like it at Stoke? They would be four or five up in 20 minutes. Barca would be a lot stronger than any Premier League team. Real would be battling with Chelsea and United for second and their superior attacking options should take them home." - squigs

"As a money spinner at the end of the season, they should do first v first, second v second etc all the way down the leagues and see which league gets most points at a neutral venue. Would answer this question (which league is better) and spin some money for the big wigs." - stealthgun

Have to say, we absolutely love this idea and think it would be a brilliant replacement for the flawed 39th game idea. Presumably you'd start with 20th versus 20th and work your way up, and then even if a winner was confirmed prior to the conclusion, there'd still be plenty of interest in Real Madrid versus Arsenal and Barcelona versus Manchester United dead rubbers!

"Can't name my source but Robbie Keane on loan to Wolves in January is a serious possibility." - OldGold

"Andy Carroll and Ashley Young are both set to join Chelsea in the January transfer window, Carroll for £14 million and Young for £12 million." - twomolinaris

"Nottingham Forest will win the Championship ([19.5]). Reasons? They are handily placed just outside the play-off spots with games in hand. They are likely to invest quite heavily in new players in January. Chances are that one of those 'signings' will be an extended loan for Aaron Ramsey, who is a very classy midfielder. They have learned from last season that it is more effective to come late and fast rather than to fall away post-January. The players are well up for it and the embarrassing defeat at Leicester has helped them to turn a corner. Billy Davies is a top manager and is well capable of guiding Forest to the top. Home form is magnificent and away form is better than last season - and about to improve further in my opinion. Lee Camp is the best keeper in the division. QPR and Cardiff are in false positions - neither will finish in the top 2 in my opinion. They have undersoil heating so there shouldn't be a fixture pile-up in the event of a sustained period of bad weather." - Dr Matthew Chinnery
