Sanchez confident he can do Wales job
The Football Association of Wales have yet another name to consider for the vacant Wales manager job - Lawrie Sanchez.
Sanchez has an excellent record as an international manager guiding Norther Ireland from 127th in the FIFA world rankings when he took over in 2004, to 27th by the time he left three years later.
With no real outstanding candidate for the position, Sanchez 's experience could give the selection committee something to think about.
Speaking to the BBC, Sanchez said: "I think something good can be done down here. You have fantastic support and the Welsh fans are up there with the Northern Ireland fans in their passion for the football.
"I've read in the paper that they are looking for a Welshman. I can understand that. Smaller nations tend to be more nationalistic than perhaps bigger nations like England.
"But if they want a proven manager with international experience of turning round a small country into a major outfit then that's something I can say I've done that."
Sanchez is still well off in the betting though. He's currently at [34.0] to take over from John Toshack who left the job at the start of the season.
After Robbie Savage 'revealed' Ian Rush had been given the job, the ex-Liverpool striker is now favourite at [2.18]. However, given Rush's only previous managerial experience was a stint at Chester in 2004, it's hard to see the FAW considering him for the role.
Another surprise candidate is Terry Venables. The ex-England manager is in to [12.0] for the job, although it's difficult to see him getting off the sun bed long enough to even consider the job, let alone do it.
The most likely candidates are Brian Flynn [4.4] and Chris Coleman [5.1]. Flynn would appear to be in prime position because of his work with the under-21s, while Coleman would be something of a wild card after his disappointing time in charge of Coventry.
