Flynn convinced he's still right for Wales

Brian Flynn was given two games to prove his credentials after John Toshack left the Wales job. And those two games couldn't have gone much worse, with poor defeats against Bulgaria and Switzerland weakening his hand considerably.

Last night's 4-1 defeat against the Swiss was their heaviest loss since their 5-1 hammering at the hands of Slovakia in 2006. But despite the disappointment of the past five days, Flynn is adamant he still wants the job.

He said: "It's the best job and you always must go for the best job. Having worked with them for the last 10 days, it has been a joy.

"They have done their very best and I feel I can still get more out of them. There is more to come and I am the man for the job. I have no doubt about my credentials."

He may not have any doubt, but it seems the Betfair punters aren't quite so sure. Flynn was as low as [3.3] to get the Wales job on a permanent basis, but has drifted out to [4.1] following the dismal defeats.

Flynn has confirmed various candidates will be interviewed for the job over the coming weeks, and that he will retain his position as Under-21 coach if he is unsuccessful in bagging the top job full-time.

At the moment it's looking like a straight fight between Flynn and Chris Coleman ([5.4]). They are miles ahead of John Hartson and Dean Saunders who are the next favourites at [24.0].

Based on the evidence of last night, whoever gets the job will have their work cut out.
