For the uninitiated of you, in European terms, the Copa Sudamericana is kind of like the Europa League. It's for teams from South America who failed to qualify for the Copa Libertadores (their equivalent of the Champions League).
Right, now the background has been sketched in, we can get down to the business of the three Copa Sudamericana last 16 games on Betfair Live video tonight...
Goias v Penarol (Kick-off: 11:30pm)
Goias made it to the last 16 courtesy of a 4-1 aggregate victory over fellow Brazilians Goiás in the last round. They face a Penarol side who came through 3-1 against Barcelona (the Uruguayan version). Goias have been going through a rough time of things at home recently, winning just one of their last four on home soil. However, they should still have too much for the Uruguayans who lost their last game 2-1 against River Plate. Back a win for the home side at [1.99].
Atletico Mineiro v Independiente Santa Fe (Kick-off: 2am)
If you're still awake at 2am, then you could do a lot worse than tune into this clash. Colombian side Santa Fe are in the midst of a dreadful run of form at the moment, winning just one of their last five games. They are still top of the Colombian Primera A table though, and should provide Atletico with a stern test. Atletico Mineiro's season has been a complete disaster, and they currently lie in the Brazilian relegation zone after 29 games. With Atletico winning just two of their last eight games, we can see Santa Fe getting something out of this game, so back the draw at [3.75].
Emelec v Avai (Kick-off: 2am)
Avai are only two points better off than Atletico Mineiro in the Brazilian top division, and only a point above the relegation zone. They've won just one of their last 16 games in all competitions and should provide easy pickings for Emelec. The hosts are third in the Ecuadorian top division and have lost just three times in their previous 20 games. Back a win for Emelec at a very tidy [1.89].
