Scotland on a Spanish hiding to nothing
Scotland's 4-6-0 formation against the Czech Republic has been criticised and condemned almost nonstop since their 1-0 defeat on Friday, so now boss Craig Levein has declared his intention to mix things up against Spain tonight.
The thought of Scotland trying to go toe-to-toe with World Champions should instil nothing but fear in any Scottish fan, because if there is one side you do need to be defensive against, it's Spain.
However, Levein appears determined to take the game to Spain, he said: "I genuinely believe we can score in this game. I always believe we can score goals in any game and we'd like to get a goal against Spain.
"We'd like two goals and we've watched Spain five or six times. There are areas we might be able to exploit."
If Levein isn't bluffing, then his comments will be music to the ears of Spain coach Vicente del Bosque. Argentina may have swept aside Spain 4-1 last month by playing attacking football, but Scotland hardly have the likes of Lionel Messi to call upon.
The USA and Switzerland are the only other teams to have beaten Spain in the past four years, and they got their wins through disciplined defending and a bit of luck.
Spain should win this, and they are a not too shabby [1.39] to beat Scotland this evening. And if Scotland do go out to attack, then putting some money on over 2.5 goals at [2.06] could be well worth a punt. However, we have a sneaking suspicion that Levein will play as defensively as he possibly dare, and like the look of under 2.5 goals at [1.92].
