Bayern Munich to progress in DFB Cup
Defending DFB Cup champions Bayern Munich face last season's losing finalists Werder Bremen in the second round of the competition, desperate to get their season up and running.
Bayern have had a dreadful start to their season and currently lie in 11th place in the Bundesliga. Werder Bremen - who finished third in the league last term - are currently eighth.
Bayern coach Louis van Gaal, he said: "It's a match we simply can't afford to lose - It's a death or gladioli game." No, we don't really know what he's talking about either. But we gather that the Dutchman is determined to ensure Bayern defend their crown.
We fancy them to take a big step to doing just that with a victory over Werder Bremen tonight.
Bayern have gained just 12 points from their opening nine games, but the German champions have got things back on track somewhat in recent weeks. They have not lost in three games and have been defeated in just two of their last 27 games at the Allianz Arena.
For a team that did so well last season, Bremen have an absolutely abysmal away record. They have won only one of their previous eight games on the road, and that was against a Borussia Mönchengladbach side rooted in the Bundesliga relegation zone.
Bayern are a very tempting [1.84] to win this clash, but with only two clean sheets in their last seven, they could ship a few goals. Backing over 2.5 goals at [1.67] looks like a sound way to increase your profits.
