Ferdinand to lead England out at Wembley
It's always joked about that there are plenty of slow news days during the international break but even we had to raise a smile at the main story on Sky Sports News this morning - that Sky sources claim that England captain Rio Ferdinand will - get this - wear the armband against Montenegro.
The not-so-shocking news that Steven Gerrard will relinquish the captaincy to the returning defender hasn't been confirmed by Fabio Capello, however given his comments in February that "when I chose John Terry as captain, I also selected a vice-captain and also named a third choice; there is no reason to change this decision" it always appeared unlikely that the pecking order would be altered.
Ferdinand won't be reunited with his regular partner at centre back, Terry, though after he was ruled out with a back injury last night. Either Joleon Lescott or Gary Cahill will replace the Chelsea man and, given that Lescott got the nod against Switzerland, he will be the frontrunner.
England are overwhelming [1.24] favourites to win the battle between Group G's 100 per cent record holders, with the lay available at intriguing [1.25], meaning that for a liability of £10 you could win £40 if the Three Lions' 11-match winning streak at Wembley is ended.
How should Capello line up for tomorrow's qualifier? Have your say in the box below...
