England are the world's sixth-best team!

The media's latest attempt to build the England football team up in preparation for slaughtering them in two summers time has been given further ammunition after the latest edition of the FIFA world rankings confirmed England as the sixth-best side in the world right now.

Convincing Euro 2012 qualifying victories over Bulgaria and Switzerland pushed England past World Cup semi-finalists Uruguay by virtue of the fact they didn't play, meaning that Spain, Holland and Germany are the only European nations above the Three Lions - semi-finals in Ukraine and Poland, here we come!

As ever with the world rankings, there are plenty of holes there to be picked though, with Portugal holding onto eighth place despite kicking off their campaign with a 4-4 home draw against Cyprus and 1-0 loss in Norway.

Similarly, an impressive 2-0 success away to Bosnia-Herzegovina wasn't enough to stop France from slumping to an all-time record low ranking of 27th. That's a whopping 15 places lower than Greece!

But while the standings are as ever open to ridicule in some areas, their judgement of which four countries are the finest in Europe is reflected by the current Euro 2012 betting, with number one side Spain the [5.0] favourites and Germany ([5.7]), Holland [(9.4]) and England ([9.8]) next in line.

Are Fabio Capello's squad worthy of their position in both the world rankings and the Euro 2012 betting? Have your say below...
