Day 186: We're backing St Polten to beat First Vienna at [2.26]

The majority of the money in Friday afternoon's Austrian second tier clash between St Polten and First Vienna - which is live on Betfair Live Video - has somewhat surprisingly been placed on the visitors but we can't escape the feeling that the value lies in backing the hosts at the meaty price of [2.26].

There's no denying that First Vienna have more to play for given that they sit bottom of the table with just four games left to drag themselves to safety, however they haven't looked like escaping a relegation they were lucky to avoid last season recently, going four matches without a win.

Likewise, while St Polten are 19 points off the title pace and 16 shy of the battle to dodge the drop so in theory have very little at stake in the closing weeks of the campaign, the freedom appears to be having a positive effect judging by a run of five fixtures without defeat or even conceding a goal.

A streak of four consecutive home clean sheets, during which they have achieved three victories, should be of huge concern to a First Vienna team that have enough trouble scoring against far less convincing defences, having netted only once in their last four outings.

The head-to-head advantage between these clubs belongs to St Polten having two of their three encounters so far this season, including the previous one in front of their own fans, so back them to push the strugglers from the capital closer to the Regionaligas.

Our bet: We're backing St Polten to defeat First Vienna at [2.26], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £12.60. The same punt pays only £10 with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
