Day 179: We're backing Woking to beat Farnborough at [2.5]
Woking know better than any other Blue Square South team just how painful and disruptive play-off heartache can be, having followed their final defeat to Bath City last year with a dreadful start to the current campaign, which caused them to still be stuck way down in 12th as recently as February.
Their recovery since then has been both miraculous and intimidating for their promotion rivals, with 15 wins, three draws and just two losses in their closing 20 fixtures arguably enough to render them favourites to get it right in this season's play-offs, despite finishing lowest of the four participants.
So even though Farnborough came second and were six points better off over the course of the 42 regular season games, we feel confident in backing Woking at [2.5] for a number of reasons.
The first is the Cards' terrific home record, as they have won 11 and drawn two of their 13 league matches at the Kingfield Stadium since Christmas and haven't been overcome in front of their fans since October 2, when they were edged out by eventual champions Braintree.
Equally significant is the fact that they have claimed four points against Boro already this term and are unbeaten in four meetings, while the visitors are also affected by the collapse of their automatic promotion bid, entering this clash on a run of three losses in five that may prove hard to shake off.
Our bet: We're backing Woking to defeat Farnborough at [2.5], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £15. The same punt pays only £12 with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
