The Betfair Football £10 Bet of the Day
Day 176: We're laying Lyon at home to Montpellier at [1.42]
Successive Bet of the Day wins have been a rarity in April but after our first selection of the week delivered on Tuesday thanks to Clyde beating Elgin, we're looking to get a streak going by opposing Lyon in their Ligue 1 collision with Montpellier at [1.42].
It promises to be a season-sculpting evening in the French top-flight as champions Marseille bid to overtake Lille at the top of the table by winning their game in hand against Nice, and Lyon realistically have to defeat Montpellier in their one to keep their slim chances of first place alive.
Both matches are available for Betfair customers to watch live from 6pm courtesy of Betfair Live Video but it's the one involving Lyon that interests us the most, as we take the controversial decision to lay a team that haven't lost any of their last 16 encounters at the Stade Gerland.
Why? There are numerous reasons, of which one of the most significant is that despite last being conquered as hosts in September, they have hardly been flawless in front of their fans, drawing six of their last 11 there and last delivering two victories in a row in November.
They face a Montpellier side that have struggled to build on their terrific first campaign back in the big time yet who are nonetheless not very easily conquered and boast the fourth strongest travelling record in the entire division.
Their form on the road is fiercer now than at any other stage of the season too having gone seven games without defeat, despite visiting PSG and Lorient in that time. They won away at Lyon last term and have actually only been beaten on one of their last five trips to the seven-time title winners.
Our bet: We're laying Lyon at home to Montpellier at [1.42], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £23.82. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
