Euro review - PSV humiliate Feyenoord

There's never a dull weekend in European football but this one was more exciting than most, as each of the five leagues we regularly look at brought plenty to the table...

Holland
It's rare that we lead with the Eredivisie, however it's not often that the third greatest club in Dutch history lose 10-0, as Feyenoord did at PSV yesterday. But while they were embarrassed on the pitch, they emerge with credit off the pitch, after boss Mario Been was surprisingly backed by fans and the board. PSV are now [2.16] favourites to win the title above former frontrunners Ajax ([2.38]) were held at Excelsior. Champions FC Twente ([7.2]) overtook them in second after beating ADO Den Haag 3-2.

Germany
Mainz ([8.0]) ignored the script that said they would fall away after dropping their first points in a defeat to Hamburg last week and regained top spot with a 1-0 victory at Bayer Leverkusen. Borussia Dortmund ([2.92]) surrendered the position by drawing 1-1 against Hoffenheim. Elsewhere, Bayern Munich ([3.45]) were held to a goalless draw by Hamburg, Steve McClaren suffered his fifth reverse in nine as Wolfsburg trainer and Stuttgart climbed off the bottom with a 2-0 win against St Pauli.

France
This most unpredictable of Ligue 1 seasons got even crazier this weekend as Bordeaux lost 2-0 at home to overachieving newcomers Brest and Lyon rescued a point at hapless Arles, ending the duo's recent recoveries. Leaders Rennes were turned over by Montpellier too, meaning that two points separate the top six. Of that bunch, it's holders Marseille who are deserving favourites to finish first at [2.02]. Summer signing Loic Remy struck twice as they won 3-1 at Lille to jump to second.

Italy
Serie A struggles to distance itself from Calciopoli and yesterday's incident did little to help. Juventus were given a ridiculous penalty after a Milos Krasic dive in Bologna, though Vincenzo Iaquinta missed from the spot in a goalless draw. The Bianconeri weren't the only underachievers as Inter ([2.3]) drew at home to Sampdoria, Palermo lost to Udinese and Roma endured a stalemate in Parma. It was therefore another great day for Lazio ([19.0]), who are four points clear after beating Cagliari 2-1.

Spain
Real Madrid ([1.95]) are favourites to win La Liga for the first time after another emphatic triumph, this time 6-1 over Racing Santander, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring four. Fears that Jose Mourinho's brand of football wouldn't provide enough excitement aren't being realised - they've netted 22 times in eight games, eight more than Barcelona ([2.14]), who are a point behind alongside perfect hosts Villarreal ([140.0]) after a comparatively drab 2-0 win away to Real Zaragoza.
