Ben Herd's Aldershot are flying at the moment and in a great position to make the play-offs

Ben Herd and his high-flying Aldershot got a priceless win at Chesterfield on Saturday and after the match he caught up with their centre-back Danny Hall to discuss misconceptions about footballers, life under John Sheridan and his future in the game.

"I have been in this situation before and it isn't really that nice, my missus is pregnant with our first child as well, so these people who think footballers are overpaid so and sos, are sadly very much mistaken."

After a really disappointing week, results-wise, we headed to Chesterfield for our weekend fixture. The trip didn't really start off too well, as we got caught in loads of traffic up the M1 and then we arrived at our hotel in Chesterfield and it was more like a Brothel than a hotel! At dinner, it is customary for any new signings to stand up on a chair and give the lads a rendition of a song - we had a couple of the lads do this but by far the best was our new signing Omer Riza. Omer gave the best version of Oliver Twist's "oom pa pa", absolutely brilliant.

As for the game itself, we played really well and managed to win 1-0, courtesy of a Danny Hilton header - a great result considering Chesterfield have the best home record in the league. This week's player for betting.betfair.com is Chesterfield defender Danny Hall. Danny has struggled to nail down a first team spot this term with experienced players such as Rob Page and Ian Breckin being preferred. Here is what he had to say on things:

So Danny, you weren't involved in today's game, but what did you make of it from the stands?

Typical League Two game if I am honest, we didn't play particularly well all game really. We had been in great form going into it as we had won the last six games, albeit we hadn't necessarily played well in those games, but we had nicked wins, so coming into this game we were full of confidence that we could take all three points. Fair play to Aldershot because they did play well, they got the ball down at times and played some nice stuff, they seemed to be well organised and played better balls forward than we managed to. The cross for the Aldershot goal was exceptional, even if the centre forward miss-headed it into the bottom corner!

How would you say the season has faired both personally and as a club?

On a personal level, it has been absolutely rubbish! After forcing my way into the team last season, I really felt that I could push on this season and play week in week out, but it sadly hasn't turned out that way. I had gone on loan to Darlington earlier on in the season, so I could get some games in and keep myself fit. I enjoyed playing up there and the manager wanted me to stay for the remainder of the season, but they are in a really difficult situation and there wasn't much confidence about the place, so I decided against it - not to mention it was taking me 2 1/2 hours to get there every day! As a club, our target for this season was to achieve automatic promotion. Given the state of the teams in the League this year, there was no-one standing out. Also, clubs seem to be really struggling with finances this season, so we felt it would be as good an opportunity as ever to get out of League Two. We are firmly locked in the play-offs with all still to play for, so it 's really tight, but hopefully we can fulfil our target.

John Sheridan came in as your manager this season, how have you found him?

I would like him a bit more if he decided he wanted to play me more! In all seriousness, you can tell that he played at a really high level because he demands professionalism from all the lads all of the time, he is quite intense in that respect. He is a sucker for detail, he will not let anyone toss off training, he expects 100% in everything that we do which is good. He was a bit of a passer in his day playing at a much higher level, and he does want us to pass when it is on, but he realises in League Two sometimes you have to play in to the front man a bit more and get the ball forward earlier.

You are out of contract in the summer, is that a bit of a concern with you not playing at the minute?

I have been in this situation before and it isn't really that nice, my missus is pregnant with our first child as well, so these people who think footballers are overpaid so and sos, are sadly very much mistaken. I need to get playing again to either earn myself a new deal at Chesterfield or put myself in the shop window for another club. There are always a lot of players out of contract in the summer so it is always difficult. I guess it's a case of play it by ear!

Finally, are there any good youngsters that could possibly play at a higher level?

Scott Boden, he is only 19 and a centre forward, he is a very tidy player with good vision and very good feet. He is also one of those players who isn't lightning fast, but is very sharp over 5-10 yards. Throw into the mix that he is a great finisher and you'll quickly realise he really can go onto better things.
