England v Sri Lanka T20 Betting: Tourists an unbeatable wager

Dilshan is in good form

An incredulous Ed Hawkins can't fathom why the world champions are so big to win at The Oval on Tuesday against an exciting but inexperienced home side.

"Sri Lanka's price is so bizarre that it actually makes us worry if we've been in a coma for a couple of years."

England v Sri Lanka
Start time: 18.00BST
TV: live on Sky Sports

England
There's a lot to be pleased with in terms of batting talent for this game. The same cannot be said of the bowling. Eoin Morgan, the skipper, Ian Bell and Ravi Bopara are the experienced campaigners who head up an array of young thrusters which include Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Joe Root and Chris Woakes and, of course, Alex Hales. Hales hit the first ever century in T20 against Sri Lanka in the World Cup and statistically is one of the best in the world. Unfortunately they look weak with the ball. Tim Bresnan will carry a lot of responsibility but Harry Gurney and Chris Jordan are ingénues.

Sri Lanka
The tourists warmed up for this match by battering a below-strength Sussex team. Lasith Malinga took two wickets, Ajantha Mendis was miserly and Tillakaratne Dilshan blitzed 73. Of course the Lankans must make do without Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara after retirement but they still have plenty of class besides. Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perrera and Nuwan Kulasekara are all players England will be envious of.

First-innings runs
The first-innings average in the 13 T20 internationals which have not been rain-affected is a healthy 165. That is no surprise. The Oval is one of the best batting wickets in the country. It is quick and the ball flies to the boundary almost as fast. Three times more than 200 has been breached. The hot weather in London recently would have increased the chances of a flat pitch. Unfortunately it is the weather forecast which prevents us from playing this market. There is a bit of rain around. It is expected to turn up before play begins so its severity - and it looks pretty light to be fair - will determine whether overs are lost or not. Best to play by ear and if it's a full game go for a punt of 160 or more.

Match odds
It is not that often we come across a horribly wrong set of odds. So rejoice! This is one of those occasions. It is unfathomable as to how Sri Lanka have been rated as 2.166/5 underdogs. The price is so bizarre that it actually makes us worry if we've been in a coma for a couple of years. Clearly there are those who think they know something we don't but for the life of us we can't work it out. Perhaps, erroneously, punters reckon Sri Lanka are dodgy away from home and are expecting seam, swing and a green pitch to undo them. Make no mistake, The Oval is the best wicket in the country for this bunch. England, embarrassed and shamed by the Netherlands in the World Cup, are 1.865/6 to win here. Against, let's not forget, the current world champs. It is a severe test for the English and anyone who reckons that they will pass it at those odds against the might and skill of Malinga and co is brave or foolish. But most definitely both.

Top England runscorer
Hales, who averages 51 at The Oval in T20s, became a record-breaker against Sri Lanka so he will be licking his lips for this one. He is 3.90 for honours and he has spoken in the build-up about how he needs to press a claim for a spot in the ODI team. Next best are Ian Bell and Michael Carberry at 4.30100/30 respectively. Morgan is 4.607/2 and Buttler 7.006/1.

Top Sri Lanka runscorer
Dilshan hit 96 from 90 balls in Sri Lanka's 57-run win over West Indies at this venue in 2009. Given that his stand-and-deliver approach is perfectly suited to this surface it is no surprised he has been well backed to go big again. He is 4.10. Kithuruwan Vithanage, who opened with Dilshan against Sussex and made an unbeaten 52 from 24 balls is 4.804/1. Mathews, who has show for on tour, is 5.309/2.
