Ronnie O'Sullivan v Shaun Murphy
Match odds: O'Sullivan 1.241/4, Murphy 5.14/1
It was too close for comfort but Ronnie O'Sullivan remains on course for a sixth title after a stunning comeback against Joe Perry. The Rocket will need to up his overall standard from here on, especially long potting, but the way he finished that match was magnificent.
My feeling is that Ronnie will improve having passed that stern test, against an opponent who took his chances extremely well during the first two sessions. Anyone still doubting his vastly improved attitude should ask - when was the last time you saw a Ronnie fist-pumping celebration after a second round win?
Murphy represents a tough opponent and, if he can somehow pull of an upset here, a strong contender for title. The Magician was outstanding against Marco Fu and gave Ronnie a tough 13-10 battle when they last met here three years ago. Nevertheless, Murphy has never won a ranking event clash between the pair and will do well to get as close this time. The 4.5 frame handicap looks a perfect match-up, so lets try a correct score combo around that mark on 13-8, 13-9 and 13-10.
Back O'Sullivan to win 13-8 1.5u @ 9.08/1
Back O'Sullivan to win 13-9 1.5u @ 10.09/1
Back O'Sullivan to win 13-10 1.5u @ 11.010/1
Neil Robertson v Judd Trump
Match odds: Robertson 1.538/15, Trump 2.962/1
Not so long ago, Trump would have started favourite for this match but it's hard to argue with the market's one-sided assessment of their current fortunes. Robertson looked every inch a champion in waiting during his first two matches and, were it not for the presence of O'Sullivan, the Aussie would be red-hot favourite for a second world title.
In contrast, Judd has been patchy at best and was flattered by a 13-7 scoreline against Ryan Day. Trump could learn a lot from the way Robertson has knuckled down and developed his career, to the point of becoming a worthy world number one with the complete game. Apparently there could be a bit of needle in this match and I'm expecting a focused, fluent Robertson to deliver a snooker lesson. Beating the 2.5 frame handicap looks well within range.
Back Robertson to win the 2.5 frame handicap 6u @ 1.910/11
