Wayne Mardle admits that the winners haven't been flowing for him during the World Championship but he remains in confident mood and believes that today's wager is a very strong recommendation that isn't to be missed...

"I think this could be Michael smith's day. He's hitting copious amounts of 180s and he should outscore the scorer."

Stephen Bunting v Michael Smith
22:15

Yesterday I went against Bunting and he did us no favours at all, but in all honesty he played only ok, it was the under par performance from James Wade that cost us.

So I just have to take him on again today.

I know he's a special talent, I know he's odds-on favourite, but I cannot see him beating Michael Smith on current form. Smith when on form, like he is right now, is going to take some stopping and I just don't see Stephen being the one to do so, not the way he has been playing.

Bunting hasn't played anywhere near his best and it's a hard task looking for something to click midway through a tournament.

Michael is the one having the blitzes of five or six legs that have seen him take his opponent apart. Against Brendan Dolan and Mensur Suljovic he's been tried and tested and passed the examinations with a grade A. Stephen knows he'll have to play better while Michael knows he has to just carry on.

My only concern was that Smith's double hitting was so far off the mark in the early part of his match with Dolan, if he does that again he'll be in trouble. I don't think he will but it's a possibility.

I think this could be Michael Smith's day. He's hitting copious amounts of 180s and he should outscore the scorer.
