Wayne Mardle: Taylor to win but Wade can bridge the handicap

Will Wade stay close enough to Taylor to land the handicap?

The best four darts players on the planet are in action tonight as the World Matchplay reaches the semi-final stage. Wayne Mardle gives his thoughts ahead of an unmissable night of 'arrers...

"The Machine won't let his opponent get too far ahead of him, and while The Power should reach the final I don't think he will do so by winning by a big margin."

Back Wade +4.5 Legs @ 2.01/1

Michael van Gerwen 1.251/4 v Adrian Lewis 4.03/1

These two were involved in high quality quarter-finals on Friday night and I expect very much the same this evening.

Lewis came from three legs down at one stage to get the better of Andy Hamilton 19-17 in one of the best matches ever witnessed at the Winter Gardens. Adrian has definitely come out of his lean spell - following his victory at the European Championships recently with another good run in this tournament. He's not back to his very best just yet, but the signs are that he is getting there.

Van Gerwen continues to throw to a very high standard and he was again superb in beating Dave Chisnall last night where he was hitting the 180s for fun.

And that's where I can see a betting opportunity in this game. Adrian and MVG will be competing to score the most maximums just as much as they will be to win the match and I can see the pair trading 180s like I do 45s!

Over 20.5 180s is available to back at 1.84/5 on the Exchange, but that market has just gone up so you should get matched at higher during the day or get a better price on the Sportsbook market when it appears.

Phil Taylor 1.251/4 v James Wade 4.03/1

With these two contesting tonight's second semi-final it means that we have the top four ranked players in the world playing on one night, on one stage, in the semi-finals of one of the games's biggest tournaments. Darts doesn't get much better than this.

I expect Taylor to win this match, but at just 1.251/4 to back I wouldn't say that he is any value. The Machine won't let his opponent get too far ahead of him, and while The Power should reach the final I don't think he will do so by winning by a big margin. Backing Wade +4.5 Legs on the handicap at around the even money mark has to be the call.

Another bet to consider once the market materialises is the Over 138.5 Highest Checkout option. These two players love hitting a big checkout as they know that the three-dart combinations hurt the opponent, and that's why we will see both committ fully to going for a big checkout rather than playing safe.
