The 3Arena in Dublin is the venue for the first week's fixtures of the 2018 Premier League Darts and there's a huge clash as Michael van Gerwen takes on new world champion Rob Cross. Wayne Mardle gives his thoughts...
"Rob seems to deal with new situations very well, but I feel Michael will be focused and determined to put the world champ in his place."
I know Rob Cross beat MVG at the World Championship, and then went on to lift the crown, but I think Michael gets a little revenge here.
Surely Rob will feel a tad edgy, he has to doesn't he?, he wouldn't be human if he didn't . The Premier League is daunting, the crowds are huge, bigger than anywhere he's played before... and let me tell you, the Dublin crowd are noisy.
Rob seems to deal with new situations very well, but I feel Michael will be focused and determined to put the world champ in his place.
At 4/6, I fancy the world number one to beat the world champion.
Peter isn't playing with all guns blazing right now, but I still think he may be too relentless for Gerwyn, who like what I think about Rob Cross, may feel edgy.
Playing with nerves is perfectly normal but sometimes you need time to settle, unfortunately for a newbie in the Premier League, you just don't get time.
Peter will be looking to go one better than last year, he was beaten in the final by MVG, well, he kind of beat himself... he had a handful of darts at a double to win the title.
The 8/13 about Snakebite seems fair to me.
