Wayne Mardle: Pipe good value to top Taylor on the maximums

Pipe is hitting 180s for fun

The World Matchplay darts hits quarter-final stage, with the first two matches tonight, live on Sky Sports. Wayne Mardle picks out value bets from both ties...

"I think Taylor is playing far too well to slip up here, but there is another way to win money: the 180s. Pipe is hitting maximums for fun and should be backed to beat the 13-time matchplay champ at a good price of 2.0521/20."

Phil Taylor v Justin Pipe
Thursday, 19:00
Live on Sky Sports 1

This game is all about how Pipe performs on the night. We know that Taylor will play well but sometimes Justin can put in a ropey effort. I'm staying away from the correct score on that premise. I think Taylor is playing far too well to slip up here, but there is another way to win money: the 180s. Pipe is hitting maximums for fun and should be backed to beat the 13-time matchplay champ at a good price of 2.0521/20.

Recommended Bet
Back Justin Pipe to hit the most 180s at 2.0521/20

James Wade v Simon Whitlock
Thursday, 20:30
Live on Sky Sports 1

This is the sort of game that Wade thrives on; a long format match against a slightly quicker opponent. James is a consistent sort who never seems to go through peaks and troughs and, over a long drawn out format like this (best of 31), that's a great trait to have. Simon is one of the sport's best combination finishers and if he is to challenge The Machine tonight he will have to take out some of the important 100-plus finishes. I'm expecting a cracking game with Wade to eventually emerge victorious.

Recommended Bet
Back James Wade to win at 1.574/7
