Day three of the PDC World Darts includes both afternoon and evening sessions, so it's an early start for our resident pundit and tipster Wayne Mardle, who has a trio of selections for what promises to be a super Saturday at Ally Pally...
"For an Anderson 3-1 win at 11/4 the bookies seem to think Jeff or Luke can't win a set, I think they're wrong."
I think this'll be an enjoyable game to watch. Two men who just get on with things, Steve West especially, he's a swift operator.
West is definitely a big stage player. His performances seem better when the pressure is on.
Steve lost to MVG in the recent Players Championships, in that game he averaged near a ton, this tells me his game is in good order. We know Michael can inflate averages, I watched the match, West looked good.
I'm unsure about Benito's confidence at the moment, I think he is too. A year or so ago Benito's name was being bashed around in terms of a Premier League spot, that seems a long way off now, he's regressed slightly, and The World Championships isn't the place to be searching for form.
I'm going to play this on the conservative side and go for Steve West +1.5 sets at 4/6. I just think there's not much to like about Benito's play right now and he has to be opposed.
Back Steve West +1.5 Sets @ 4/6
In my tournament preview I alluded to the fact that Zoran was a massive price at 4-1 to beat Mervyn, well, those odds have been devoured by the shrewdies.
At 11/4 now, I still think the Austrian can cause The King huge problems. I know he's a little inexperienced in terms of major events but Zoran has played in a number of European Tour events.
Mervyn always gives a good account of himself. King isn't as good as he was, that's a fact, his performances tell us that. He's a little less consistent these days. Don't get me wrong, Mervyn has all the right tools to deal with Zoran, but I hark back to the price, it's wrong!!!
I've already backed "Lerchy" at 4-1, but I think I'll go in again on the handicap +1.5 sets. Maybe a little double with Steve West is the bet too.
Back Zoran Lerchbacher +1.5 Sets @ 5/4
Gary Anderson v Jeff Smith/Luke Humphries (preliminary match)
Whoever wins from the prelim game will cause Gary some problems...I think. I'm not even thinking they can win, I'm thinking they can win a set. Both Luke and Jeff are classy players, nowhere near in Anderson's class mind, who is!
Jeff was a BDO World Championship runner up just a few years ago. Luke won the Development Tour Order of Merit, beating Dimitri Van den Burgh into second spot, kudos.
For an Anderson 3-1 win at 11/4 the bookies seem to think Jeff or Luke can't win a set, I think they're wrong.
Back Gary Anderson to Win 3-1 @ 11/4
