Wayne Mardle: Lloyd a huge price to hit more maximums than MVG

Colin Lloyd looks a big price to score the most 180s

Betfair Darts Ambassador Wayne Mardle takes us through the second day's play at the World MatchPlay in Blackpool, picking out his best bets including what looks an excellent value wager in the last game of the night...

"Michael has been superb in the last 12 months or so, we all know that, but he switches to the treble 19 so often that there in lies the chance."

Back Lloyd Most 180s @ 9.08/1

Afternoon Session

Justin Pipe 1.574/7 v Mark Webster 2.47/5

Mark has injured his foot in recent weeks and hasn't practiced the way he'd of liked, but that doesn't mean it's going to be a bad thing. We've seen the likes of Simon Whitlock perform admirably with a broken foot in recent years. Yes, it can affect balance, but it doesn't affect the throwing arm. Beware of the wounded sportsman as they say.

Pipe has had his worst year on the dart board to date, things haven't gone as planned for the Taunton Tornado and it's difficult to suddenly find form at one of the biggest tournaments on the calendar. Forget Webster's injury, he looks overpriced to win this one.

Kim Huybrechts 1.84/5 v Peter Wright 2.01/1

This promises to be a fantastic match between two players throwing superbly well at the moment. It's difficult to split them in terms of picking a winner, but for betting purposes, we don't have to call a winner.

The advice is to sit back and enjoy this one as a plethora of 180s get hit during a match that goes all the way. The markets are still taking shape as I write, but Over 8.5 180s looks a sound investment to me, and if a Over/Under Legs market appears nearer the start then back Overs in that too.

Evening Session

Mervyn King 2.111/10 v Gary Anderson 1.75/7

Similar comments apply to this match as they do to the Huybrechts/Wright game in the fact that it should be an absolute classic, many 180s being hit, and a close game that should go all the way. However the difference here is that although both players are massive scorers, they aren't in superb form and are prone to missing doubles.

Again, because it's too close to call then the Match Odds market is best left alone and we should instead concentrate on 'Overs' in a few markets. You might not get rich backing Over 8.5 180s but this match could go into extra time and we should see maximums galore. Also consider backing 'Over' in the Legs market once that appears.

Dave Chisnall 1.574/7 v Paul Nicholson 2.35

Nicholson has flattered over the last year or so. He has all the talent in the world, but rarely shows it. The problem with Nico is that he's consistently inconsistent; on his day he's a match for the very best players in the world and he knows it. But unfortunately those days are rare and are becoming increasingly less.

Chisnall is also a match for anyone at his best, and on his day is a serious contender for any tournament he lines up in. He's playing the better of the two right now and for that reason I fancy him to win.

Michael van Gerwen 1.11/10 v Colin Lloyd 6.511/2

I can assure readers that I haven't gone mad - though many will argue that happened a long time ago - but I think Lloyd can hit more 180s than the Green Machine in this fascinating encounter.

Colin is a former world number one and is not to be taken lightly. He will play with the attitude that if he plays his A game then he wins. Jaws is a big scorer and the maximums will surely come if he's on form.

Michael has been superb in the last 12 months or so, we all know that, but he switches to the treble 19 so often that there in lies the chance. So odds of 9.08/1 about Lloyd prevailing in the 180s stakes look huge. Don't miss out.
