Wayne Mardle on the Grand Slam of Darts: Cosy win on the cards for Kim

A cosy win without being emphatic is how Wayne Mardle believes Kim Huybrechts will prevail tonight
A cosy win without being emphatic is how Wayne Mardle believes Kim Huybrechts will prevail tonight

We're down to the knock-out stages at the Grand Slam of Darts, and just like the players our own Wayne Mardle is moving into top gear after landing another winner on Tuesday night. Here's Hawaii 501's thoughts on one of tonight's matches...

"I expect Kim to keep Alan at bay and win cosily in the end, hopefully by three legs."

Back Huybrechts to Win 10-7 @ 9.08/1 or better

What a line up we have for the last-16 in Wolverhampton. There are players who are playing at their very best, and as you know confidence is key in any sport.

The format for this round is best of 19 legs and I expect the proven winners to start to show their class and overall dominance in matches, that said I don't see many routs happening at all because there are some quality matches between players capable of beating anyone on their day.

Alan Norris v Kim Huybrechts

Alan 'Chuck' Norris has an excellent disposition, and that helps him play the way he plays, with minimum fuss and he just relishes the challenge. He also relishes playing on the big stage, if you can relax when others around you are tightening up you'll do ok.

Huybrechts was looking like being the real deal two years ago having burst on the darting scene. Kim's form had somewhat tailed off this year but as good players do it hasn't taken him long to get the confidence back.

Let me just tell you what I think will happen in this match.

I think Kim will win because in my opinion he's the better player. But I also think that he'll make hard work of it because he's not an annihilator, he manages to lose legs that he shouldn't, when you've got so much natural talent it's easy to rely on it.

So although the 1.664/6 about a Huybrechts victory should prevail, it's not a price I want to dive into. I'd prefer to play in the Correct Score market in an attempt to find a big-price winner.

The pace of the match will suit Kim better as Alan can get a bit rapid and lose the weight of the dart, causing a first dart flier. I expect Kim to keep Alan at bay and win cosily in the end, hopefully by three legs.

Can Norris cause an upset? Yes, but he'll need to be on his very best form and rely on Kim to miss a few doubles.
