Wayne Mardle: Back Barney to see off Webster

Reliable Barney is the selection from tonight's quarter-finals
Reliable Barney is the selection from tonight's quarter-finals

Mark Webster pulled off some phenomenal darts to get through his last-16 skirmish with Gary Anderson, but Wayne doesn't fancy the Welshman to hit those highs against Barney this evening

"It's improbable that Mark will repeat the quality of his finishing against Gary Anderson and for that reason I'm in Barney's corner."

Mark Webster v Raymond Van Barneveld

Will Mark Webster reproduce the darting skills that saw off Gary Anderson? The likely answer is no.

Webby has endured a torrid time at the oche for the past few years but I think we can firmly say those dark darting days are behind him. He was a semi-finalist in the recent World Grand Prix and has shown that with hard work and belief that it's possible to climb back up the rankings. Kudos.

Barney looked unflappable against James Wade, he seemed focused and relaxed, but he knows that he'll have to show much determination and self-confidence if he's to beat the tenacious Webster.

Mark was outscored by Gary, his finishing was the reason he triumphed, the combination finishes were as good as I can remember from anyone for a long time. Finishes of 92, 80, 96, 64, 127, 108, 56 & 46 - that's eight legs right there - Gary was on a finish or had a dart at a double every time.

It's improbable that this quality of finishing will repeated for that reason I'm in Barney's corner.
