Wayne Mardle's Premier League Tips: Peter to make a Wright good start and Chizzy to blunt Thorn

It's the first round of fixtures in this year's Premier League and Wayne Mardle fancies one of his pre-tournament picks and an old head to get off to a winning start in Leeds on Thursday night...

"Right now there's isn't much doubt that Chisnall is playing better than his rival for the evening so I'm siding with the man who will be higher on confidence...and that's Chizzy."

Back Dave Chisnall @ 10/11 to beat Robert Thornton

Peter missed the cut last year and will want to put that Wright - forgive me, it's the first night so I'm allowed at least one pun - while Michael is making his Premier League debut, and you just wonder how the nerves will get to the youngster.

Snakebite has been playing brilliantly over the last year, oddly enough, since the end of the league last year. He just found it difficult to get a win last term, drawing four and winning only one of the nine matches he played. I'm sure he'll perform better this time round.

Smith is a young man on the up. He has the ability that's for sure, but, he's an inconsistent type. There will be disappointing times for him throughout this Premier League season and it's how he reacts to those lows that will be the important thing.

Wright isn't that easy to play because of his ultra consistent method of playing, he puts his opponents under constant pressure, and with it being Smith's debut I think it's a great time for Peter to be playing him.

But be warned, the Premier League is notoriously hard to predict due to the fact that a draw is a possible outcome; there were 17 stalemates last year.

Robert Thornton v Dave Chisnall

Live on Sky Sports 1

These two played each other on Saturday (in the Masters), on that occasion it was the first to 10 legs, and Robert led 8-0...yes 8-0. But he somehow contrived to lose 10-9 to the Yellow Peril, Dave Chisnall. Will it have a bearing in this game? It might. Will it have a bearing on the result? Possibly.

One thing is for sure, if Thornton is leading and Chizzy starts to pull it back Robert would have to be inhuman to not be thinking, "not again".

Apart from winning the World Grand Prix in October Thornton's results have been poor, a couple of quarter finals amongst some first round exits.

Chizzy has found a "B" game, he's been for too long a big hitter or a big misser, when he was off he would lose but, over the last couple of years his game has evolved and he's now a threat to all. Last year Dave finished second in the league phase to Michael Van Gerwen, that was testament to his hard work and a new found consistent play.

Right now there's isn't much doubt that Chisnall is playing better than his rival for the evening so I'm siding with the man who will be higher on confidence...and that's Chizzy.
