The Premier League moves to Aberdeen for week four and Wayne Mardle fancies The Flying Scotsman to finally get a win, while the relentless Michael van Gerwen should stroll to another victory...
"The last three meeting between these two have been one way traffic in favour of The Green Machine, 16-6, 10-3 and 6-0. I'm thinking that MVG is likely to run riot again."
Gary Anderson v Raymond van Barneveld
Live on Sky Sports 1
I said last week that Gary won't be concerned by the fact that he's without a point so far in this year's Premier League. The World Champ was missing on week one due to illness, lost to Michael Van Gerwen in week two with a 106 average, then lost to Phil Taylor in week three, no shame there.
At the weekend The Flying Scotsman got back to winning ways by beating James Wade 6-1 in a tour event final. The confidence gained should give him impetus to kick on and make up the ground lost.
Over the years Raymond has been a winner at big prices but he's an unreliable sort who seems to have contracted the OLD Gary Anderson trait of making a game look more difficult than it should be.
Last week the likeable Dutchman was all over Robert Thornton like a rash but, somehow managed to let The Thorn have a dart at tops for a draw.
With Anderson anywhere near his best I think it'll be good enough to win the seven legs needed, and accumulate two points in the process.
Gary's the reigning champ and won't let go that simply. I can't see him being slightly off like he was last week, not after playing so well at the weekend.
Back Anderson @ 4/5 to beat Van Barneveld
Michael van Gerwen v Michael Smith
Live on Sky Sports 1
Smith is struggling, a points tally of just one point after four matches, as well as performances that have been well below his usual very high standard.
The Premier League is a relentless beast. The format is tough, you play the world's very best week-in week-out until it finishes, then you go home to retrieve your sanity.
The wonderful tournament has destroyed many over the years, I so so hope that Michael Smith isn't one of them.
MVG is in danger of becoming a Bristow, a Taylor, a win machine, the one to beat, the one who seems at times unbeatable, the massive odds-on favourite every time he plays.
I'm amazed at the rate Michael racks up tournament wins in today's climate, he finds a way so often against some of the best we've ever seen.
So with all that said it's pretty obvious who I think will triumph in the match.
The last three meeting between these two have been one way traffic in favour of The Green Machine, 16-6, 10-3 and 6-0. I'm thinking that MVG is likely to run riot again.
Back Van Gerwen -3.5 Games @ 4/5 to beat Smith
