Wayne Mardle's Premier League Tips: Back Robert to be a Thorn in Barney's play-off hopes

The Premier League darts continues on Thursday evening, and with the play-off picture starting to look a bit more clear our man Wayne Mardle believes Robert Thornton can get the better off a certain Dutchman...

"Robert, though bottom of the table won't feel he's playing too poorly, he's improved greatly in the last three weeks. RVB on the other hand likes things his own way, if he feels he can't qualify for the play-offs in May, he could just lose that edge, if he does I feel he gets beat."

Back Robert Thornton to Win @ 9/5

James Wade v Adrian Lewis

Adrian Lewis was fortunate to get away with a draw last week against Peter Wright, with Peter missing darts at a double to take both points. James played two matches, beating Raymond van Barneveld but then playing poorly against Phil Taylor, losing 7-4.

The pair have been excellent some weeks and off the next, though I do think that James has been just that little more consistent.

There's little to choose between these two, they are both on 13 points, with Adrian playing a match fewer, so this is a big fixture for both, it's a must not lose situation.

Adrian was feeling a little under the weather last week, he pulled out of a tour event at the weekend. That may have a bearing on the outcome, it may not, it's just extra information you have to consider.

Adrian's recent record against James is very good, he's won four from five, while James has a 26-17 win record against Jackpot overall.

I'm settling for a James Wade win, the 7/4 is a little generous I think. Odds dictate every bet don't they?

Raymond van Barneveld v Robert Thornton

It's all about circumstance and situation.

I fancied Barney strongly to beat Michael van Gerwen just two weeks ago, he had a dart to win too, but this week I'm backing Robert Thornton gets the better of the big Dutchman.

When you consider how poor Thornton's form was it's by no means a certainty he'll finish the Premier League season behind Raymond.

I'm of the opinion that Barney will lose his first game of the evening against Phil Taylor then find the gritty Scotsman just too tough to beat.

Robert had a 104 average last week in a 5-7 defeat to MVG, who needed all of his 117.95 average to beat him.

Robert, though bottom of the table won't feel he's playing too poorly, he's improved greatly in the last three weeks. RVB on the other hand likes things his own way, if he feels he can't qualify for the play-offs in May, he could just lose that edge, if he does I feel he gets beat.
