Premier League Darts: Back MVG and RVB to set up all-Dutch final

Tonight sees the conclusion of the 2014 Premier League Darts at the 02 Arena, and our man Wayne Mardle fancies the Dutch duo of Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld to come through their difficult semi-final matches and set up a final clash later in the evening...

"My selection is purely price driven, Barneveld is too big to beat a player who my be too nervous to play at his very best."

Michael van Gerwen v Gary Anderson

So here we are, play-offs night of this year's Premier League.

Michael van Gerwen topped the table again and plays Gary Anderson who finished fourth; Raymond van Barneveld will play Phil Taylor in the other semi-final.

Michael has been more consistent than last year with averages ranging from 95 to 110. He recorded his highest average of the season last week (110.85) so perhaps he's hit his best form at the right time.

This game for me is not as one sided as some feel - MVG is a very short priced favourite at around 1.374/11 but The Flying Scotsman knows he has the weapons to beat the Dutchman over the best of 15 format; he has been showing the grit and determination that saw him win this title in 2011.

Anderson is also very confident and very able right now, but, if he is ever so slightly off tonight then he will get beaten.

Van Gerwen's ability to win close matches is a huge plus for him here as I think this will be very tight indeed, possibly a last leg thriller.

There's not a lot to choose on darting prowess, I think the massive difference between the two is the fact that the Dutchman finds it easier than Gary to win titles; he has the capacity to achieve and is not scared of it whereas Gary hasn't been in a major final since 2011.

Raymond van Barneveld v Phil Taylor

Barney hasn't beaten Taylor on the big stage in a major since 2008 and he's never beaten him in a Premier League match whether it be in the league format or in the play-offs - it's now 20 matches and counting.

Some might say that he's due a win against Taylor; RVB may actually feel that himself but it just doesn't work that way.

Phil scraped through to the play-offs with an amazing run of 10 matches unbeaten, an incredible feat when you think back to how poor his form was in the early stages, he was ninth in the table after six weeks!

The Power knows he has the mental game won v Barney, and now he'll try to go out there and demolish the five-time champion of the world.

This is where this game gets interesting, Taylor knows he has the edge but does he have the nerve? When they met a few weeks back Taylor was so nervous it looked unlikely that either player would be able to cross the line and sure enough they drew.

My selection is purely price driven, Barneveld is too big to beat a player who may be too nervous to play at his very best.
