Wayne Mardle on the Grand Slam of Darts: Noppy to keep it close

Wayne expects a close match between Daryl Gurney and Danny Noppert
Wayne expects a close match between Daryl Gurney and Danny Noppert

We're off to the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton for Saturday's action in the Grand Slam of Darts, and our darts ambassador Wayne Mardle returns with his daily preview and tips, starting with four bets for you to consider...

"He's a steady sort who can have spells of brilliance, if he plays like I expect, which is to a 92-95 average, I'm suggesting he'll be tough to dismantle."

Noppert +1.5 legs @ 11/10

Stephen Bunting v Jeffrey de Zwaan - 13:30

You may feel tipping a 1-2 shot isn't hard. The difference in class here is huge, I think Stephen will win comfortably. Bunting is beginning to play some world class stuff again. The likeable Liverpudlian has had a difficult year or so on the dart board, a year of disappointment. Stephen has been playing markedly better in recent months.

De Zwaan did reach a semi-final of a tour event just last month, but it'd be fair to say there was no indication that was about to happen. Of course he can play well, but can he play well enough to beat Bunting? I think not.

Recommended Bet
Back Bunting -1.5 legs @ Evens

Alan Norris v Corey Cadby - 14:30

About 10 months ago I was of the opinion that Cadby was the 'next big thing', well, I'm unsure now. He's acting a little differently nowadays. He's looking to upset every opponent he's up against, rather than beat them with darting excellence.

Anyway, I still think he'll win this match. Norris is out of sorts and will struggle to handle the shenanigans that surround Cadby. Norris will become embroiled, of that I'm sure.

The darts being played by Alan right now aren't what we are used to seeing from him, his last foray on the big stage ended in a 10-0 whitewash at the hands of Simon Whitlock.

Recommended Bet
Back Cadby to win @ 3/5

Darren Webster v Mark Webster - 21:00

Eighteen months ago I'd have plunged my hard earned on Mark, now things have changed! Darren has been playing some inspired stuff over the last year. It was in this event 12 months ago that he defeated Phil Taylor 5-0.

Mark on the other hand has regressed a little. I'm pretty sure Mark is looking for a spark right now. Something to give him a fillip. But his performances of late have been poor by his high standards.

The 2008 BDO World Champion is more than capable, we know that. I just believe Darren is the better player right now.

Recommended Bet
Back Darren Webster to win @ 3/5

Daryl Gurney v Danny Noppert - 23:30

Danny was sensational last year, just losing out to an in-form Gary Anderson.. He's a steady sort who can have spells of brilliance, if he plays like I expect, which is to a 92-95 average, I'm suggesting he'll be tough to dismantle.

We know Gurney is playing the darts of his life but that doesn't mean he doesn't lose matches. I'm not calling the winner of this match, I'm saying I think it'll be close.

Recommended Bet
Back Noppert +1.5 legs @ 11/10
