Wayne Mardle's World Championship Tips: Lewis and Gurney to serve up an early epic

And we're off!
And we're off!

The World Darts Championship begin on Thursday and Wayne Mardle thinks Jamie Lewis and Daryl Gurney will run each other very close in an entertaining first round showdown...

"With the pair in good nick, I'm expecting a real close encounter. Their standard and traits of play are very similar, they are both capable of scoring well, but can often miss vital doubles."

Jamie Lewis v Daryl Gurney

To play on the opening night of the World Championship is somehow more nerve wracking than any other. Hopefully the occasion won't get to either of these two young bucks.

Daryl is coming here off the back of a career best performance in the Players Championships where he reached the semi-finals. Jamie has also been playing well and was a quarter-finalist in the world Grand Prix in October.

With the pair in good nick, I'm expecting a real close encounter. Their standard and traits of play are very similar, they are both capable of scoring well, but can often miss vital doubles.

Jamie and Daryl are still relatively short on success when it comes to winning matches at the World Championships, Jamie is hoping to win his first match ever after three previously failed attempts, while Daryl has reached the second round on two occasions.

I'd be a little surprised if either run away with this match and coasted to a trouble free victory.
I'm staying away from match betting as I can't I settle on who I think has the upper hand here.

They are both very much on an upward curve so let's hope they can produce a match to remember.

Good luck.
