Wayne Mardle on the World Grand Prix: Chisnall and Gurney can progress

Dave Chisnall's first round was the highest of anyone, just over 100

Our resident darts expert Wayne Mardle returns for the first day of second round action from the World Grand Prix and has two confident selections...

"Dave's average in the first round was the highest of anyone, just over 100. That's some play, anything like that and he'll waltz the event not just this match<. Roberts performance was much more workman like. He was decent without being outstanding."

I'm not going to waffle. Chizzy is a far superior player than Robert right now. The thorn is now a lowly 24th in the ranking whilst Chizzy is a lofty 5th.

What will please Robert is the way he handled the pressure. He's had a real indifferent time of it lately. The 2015 won't be a push over but I find it hard to see how he wins this match. If he gets way better than Chizzy, I think Chizzy then outscores him.

This game will be quick fire, both are pacey on the oche.

Both these players in the past have had composure problems, but tonight I think it's Dave that handles it best.

Chizzy must feel that he can go on from here and possibly win it. With most of the big hitters at home now, he's on the shortlist.

Daryl Gurney v Joe Cullen

These two are clearly on the up.

The consistent play of Gurney has made him a potential latter stage player of any event. He's yet to break through and make a major final, (world series events aren't majors) surely it's only a matter of time though.

At the World Matchplay in Blackpool just a few months ago he looked like a possible winner. The scoring phase of his game is up there with the very best.

Daryl was the one holding all the aces in the first round against Adrian Lewis, Lewis was hanging on before succumbing.

Cullen is a real flair player, at times mesmerising to watch. There are patches in many of Joe's matches where he seems to struggle finding the treble bed, lots of straight darts but the weight is slightly off, any of these patches this evening and he'll be in trouble.

So often I look at Joe and he makes the game seem ridiculously easy, he's a real talent that needs to find the consistent ways of a Gurney, say.

Joe is heading for a place in the world's top 16, I just think it's a little early to see him as a potential major winner. For me, Daryl will be too good, his 'B' game is also world class. Not an evident weakness.

I'm aware that Joe, has beaten Daryl on many occasions but this is big time darts, and in the past Cullen had blown up badly.

Head to head. Joe has a 5-1 lead. But they have never met on the big stage.
