Wes Newton lost to Cristo Reyes at Ally Pally 12 months ago, and his best form hasn't returned since while his opponent has gone from strength to strength. A repeat is most definitely on the cards tonight says Wayne Mardle...

"Reyes is a quality player who'll be getting on that stage knowing he'll play well, Newton will be hoping to play well."

For the past two years Wes Newton has struggled to find the form that saw him reach number five in the world rankings, while in the same period Cristo Reyes has gone from a complete unknown to a player ranked inside the top 50, the catalyst was beating Newton here 12 months ago.

In that aforementioned match it was Wes that was odds-on to win... how times have changed!

Newton needs a win from somewhere, when you are in the slide it's so easy to become desperate and try far too hard for success, to win on the world stage you really do need a free mind, Newton will be fighting himself as much as he will be Reyes.

Reyes is a quality player who'll be getting on that stage knowing he'll play well, Newton will be hoping to play well.

I've a personal soft spot for Wes, and would love to see him return to former glories but unfortunately I can't see it.
