Premier League Darts Night 10 Tips: MVG to continue Price domination

Michael van Gerwen Premier League darts
MVG dominates his matches against Gerwyn Price

We are down to the last eight as Premier League darts gets serious. James Buttler finds the betting value as the action heads to Belfast on Thursday night...

"Gerwyn Price just cannot get past the 'Green Machine'. MVG has beaten Price 15 times without reply. That is ridiculous dominance even by the world number one's high standards. It makes this one of the easiest bets of the season..."

The Machine looking tough to break

Mensur Suljovic v James Wade
Thursday, 19:15
Live on Sky Sports Darts

James Wade is playing superb darts at the moment. He hit a nine-darter in competition at the weekend and is flying. In Rotterdam last week he collected a draw against young gun Dimitri van den Bergh and beat Michael Smith 7-4. 'The Machine' has a 101 tournament average and a 47% checkout rate, both the best in the 2019 Premier League. He is a very tough man to back against right now.

Wade is third in the table and plays Mensur Suljovic in 5th. Suljovic is enjoying his darts right now and performed miracles to beat Rob Cross last week, after being 4-0 and 5-1 down. He then lost 7-3 to Daryl Gurney, but has a real chance of making the play-offs.

It's Wade's form that is irresistable though and, in what should be a terrific opening game, the Englishman is the pick. Mensur should make him work hard for the points though.

Best Bet: Back James Wade to win @ 5/4 (1 unit)

Snakebite struggles as Smith shows signs of success

Michael Smith v Peter Wright

Live on Sky Sports Darts

This is a mouthwatering clash and one that neither player can afford to lose. Peter Wright is not playing well. He has already slipped to fifth in the world rankings after a poor start to 2019. And he is struggling to get over the line in the Premier League. Often in contention, he is missing important darts and finding the unfortunate habit of turning good positions into defeats.

'Snakebite' is not a player you should be putting your money behind right now as he desperately tries to find a way of reversing a worrying trend. He lost 7-5 to Gerwyn Price last week after having chances and was battered 7-1 by MVG.

After a poor start to the Premier League, 'Bully Boy' Michael Smith is starting to pick up points. He beat Gerwyn Price and lost to James Wade last week and, despite being bottom of the pile as we move into the second half of the competition, has done enough to keep himself in the hunt.

Best Bet: Back Michael Smith to win @ 13/10 (1 unit)

Rob Cross v Daryl Gurney
Thursday, 20:30
Live on Sky Sports Darts

Northern Irishman Daryl Gurney will have the home crowd right behind him as he takes the stage in Belfast. This promises to be a crackerjack of a game, which could go all the way. 'Superchin' could easily be viewed as the value punt here. 2/1 is too big on the man in 4th who beat Mensur Suljovic 7-5 and trounced Raymond van Barneveld 7-1 in Rotterdam last week.

He also beat Rob Cross in the German Darts Championship last weekend en route to taking the title. But 2nd in the table Cross is playing well too. 'Voltage' beat Jeffrey de Zwaan last week, but suffered defeat to Suljovic. The Austrian came back from 5-1 down to reel off six straight legs. Cross admitted he'd lost concentration and will be keen to bring his A-game this week.

The 7-7 draw could be a play at 7/2, but I expect fireworks and some big throws so will be playing the 180s markets.

Best Bet: Back both players to hit 4 or more 180s @ 9/4 (1 unit)

Price can't get him out of his head

Michael van Gerwen v Gerwyn Price
Thursday, 21:20
Live on Sky Sports Darts

Gerwyn Price had admitted in the past that Michael van Gerwen is the one man on the circuit who can rock him mentally, although the Dutchman unsettles most people he beats. And he beats most people.

Gerwyn Price just cannot get past the 'Green Machine'. MVG has beaten Price 15 times without reply. That is ridiculous dominance even by the world number one's high standards. It makes this one of the easiest bets of the season, but at 1/3 MVG offers little appeal in terms of value.

To get something a little more exciting the Odds Boost is worth a look. MVG has finished top of the table in his six Premier League seasons so far and simply rules the roost his encounters with Price. The Welshman will land a blow, he's too good not too, but MVG should win this battle comfortably.

Best Bet: Back Michael van Gerwen to hit Most 180s, Highest Checkout and beat Gerwyn Price @ 2/1 (2 units)
