Premier League Darts: Value switch on Anderson

Anderson is still a dangerous opponent, despite his recent form.

Is Adrian Lewis over-bet and over-rated against Gary Anderson? Jaymes Monte thinks it's a possibility

For all his recent problems Anderson is still one of the most naturally gifted players ever to play the game.

Lack of practice and problems away from the oche have made Gary Anderson's opponents a default bet over the past four weeks. That tactic has largely been a profitable one as the defending Premier League champion has repeatedly been offered at short odds for victory.

Now wise to Anderson's slump in form punters have abandoned the Scotsman, meaning he is available to back at odds of around 3.814/5 to beat Adrian Lewis this week. Of course those odds are also based partly on Jackpot's brilliant win over Phil Taylor last week, but they may just be big enough to make Anderson a value bet. Or, at least, the lay of Lewis a viable trading option.

For all his recent problems Anderson is still one of the most naturally gifted players ever to play the game. And when such raw talent exists it cannot be completely ignored. If he gets into a groove then the Scotsman can still rattle off four, five or six consecutive legs against any player.

I actually don't think that Anderson will beat Lewis in Liverpool this Thursday; I expect Jackpot to win comfortably. But I cannot get away from the fact that the odds are wrong and working on the idea that value should always take precedence we have to take on Jackpot.
