Wayne Mardle makes his best bets from Thursday night's action in Cardiff and he can't resist a tickle on the home favourite at a big price...
"If Gary shows any sign of problems I think the 5/2 on Price could look a decent punt."
I'm not normally a fan of backing against Gary Anderson - it doesn't normally end well - but I find myself in that position again, seduced by the 5/2 on a Gerwyn Price win.
Last week, Gary could hardly throw a straight dart, and yet he should have got something from the game with Michael Smith. Anderson had handfuls of darts at a double to get at least a draw, but in the end his painful back, and Smith of course, was just too much to deal with.
Anderson, the two-time world champ pulled out of the weekend's tournaments to get fit and ready for this. Let's be honest, if he is fit and ready he'll win, as he's a better player than Gerwyn. There's no shame in that for Price - Gary is better than most.
But if Gary shows any sign of problems I think the 5/2 could look a decent punt.
Price will try to rile, annoy and generally upset Gary. That's his game, that's what he does, and he's very good at it. He'll also be the darling of the crowd. It'll be carnage in Cardiff. Haha!
Last week when making his debut, Gerwyn got a point from his match against Peter Wright, it wasn't a classic but it was a well-earned point, Price trailed for most of the match but rallied.
Back Price @ 5/2
This is a bit of an odd selection but I just fancy it, Michael Smith to hit a 170 finish.
The three players on Planet Darts who love a 170 are MVG, Simon Whitlock and Smith, they seem to leave it more than most.
Now, leaving the 'Big Fish' is easy enough but hitting Treble 20, Treble 20, Bullseye isn't so easy, that's why this selection is 20/1.
But I just feel that Smith may give himself a couple of opportunities.
Interestingly, both Michael and Daryl hit 170 checkouts at the recent World Championship. Daryl is 14/1 to achieve the same finish.
It's just a fun selection, but it'll hopefully pay.
Michael Smith to hit a 170 @ 20/1
