Top of the table Michael van Gerwen takes on second placed Glen Durrant in the pick of Wednesday's games and Dan Fitch has found a value bet on the Dutchman.
"Michael van Gerwen returned to the top of the Premier League, as he beat Rob Cross and the previous leader Glen Durrant could only draw with Peter Wright."
Premier League Darts - Night Eight
Wednesday 26 August
Live on Sky Sports Action
The Premier League Darts returned with plenty of drama on Tuesday night, as there were major changes at both the top of bottom of the table.
Michael van Gerwen returned to the top of the Premier League, as he beat Rob Cross and the previous leader Glen Durrant could only draw with Peter Wright. Van Gerwen is the [2.36] favourite to win the Premier League.
At the other end of the league, Darryl Gurney claimed a much needed win on a night when his closest rivals lost. Now only a point behind Cross and Gerwyn Price, rock bottom Gurney has two games to escape the drop, with Judgement Night looming. Gurney remains the [1.5] favourite to finish bottom, with Cross at [3.5] and Price at [7.4].
Another win for Anderson
Gary Anderson [2.24] v Gerwyn Price [2.7]; The Draw [4.4]
Start time 18:45
Anderson gave the performance of the night on Tuesday, beating Michael Smith 7-3 in a game in which he averaged 109.24, which was the best total of the evening.
In contrast, Price lost 7-4 to Nathan Aspinall. 'The Iceman' doesn't seem able to get going in the Premier League this season and as a player who feeds off the energy of the crowd, playing in empty venues won't help. Back Anderson to win at [2.24].
Asp will bite Gurney
Nathan Aspinall [1.96] v Daryl Gurney [3.2]; The Draw [4.4]
Start time 19:25
Gurney may have won his first match of the Premier League season last night, but it came against a Challenger in Chris Dobey and this looks like a much more difficult task.
Aspinall's win over Price leaves him in third place, just a point behind Durrant and Van Gerwen. This is another match where the odds look big enough to back a straight win, with Aspinall available at [1.96].
Smith played well in defeat
Michael Smith [2.2] v Rob Cross [3.0]; The Draw [4.4]
Start time 20:05
Smith might have lost to Anderson On Tuesday, but that doesn't mean he played badly. His average of 107.02 was the second best of the night, only behind that of his opponent, but Smith let himself down with his poor checkout percentage of 18.75%.
There is now a chance for Smith to bounce back against Cross, who is struggling at the foot of the Premier League. Smith hit seven 180s against Anderson and can be backed at 9/5 on the Sportsbook to win the match and score the most 180s.
Crunch game will be tight, but MVG will outscore
Michael van Gerwen [1.62] v Glen Durrant [4.4]; The Draw [4.7]
Start time 20:45
This is a top of the table clash and Van Gerwen is a little too short against the consistent Durrant.
Van Gerwen was impressive in his 7-2 win over Cross, averaging 103.37, but Durrant also proved his class in his 6-6 draw with Wright, as he averaged 102.43 and came back from 6-4 down to tie the game. The safest bet here at surprisingly big odds, is for MVG to score the most 180s at [1.88].
Challengers now lack local support
Peter Wright [1.6] v Jeffrey de Zwaan [4.9]; The Draw [5.1]
Start time 21:25
Finally we have 'Snakebite' taking on tonight's Challenger. The concept of the 'Challenger' idea, is for a player local to the venue to take on one of the Premier League regulars. Without a vociferous home crowd cheering them on, that concept is somewhat dead and instead just presents one of the top players with an easier fixture that they might otherwise have.
De Zwaan is one of the best young players in the game, but Wright's quality should be too much for him. Wright is [4.5] to win the match, score the most 180s and highest checkout.
