Cross gets to The O2 with a likely win

Six players are still in contention for the Premier League title, but that could change significantly after Thursday's matches in Manchester. Second placed Rob Cross needs a win to get to The 02 and he faces the already eliminated Michael Smith.

'Bully Boy' hasn't hit his straps this time around after being the runner-up last year. Now the pressure is off it could make him a dangerous opponent. He took a 7-7 draw from his match with Mensur Suljovic last week after leading 6-2 and had no momentum after failing to clinch a win in the last five weeks.

Cross wasn't in top form last week as he came back from 7-5 down to share the points with Gerwyn Price. 'Voltage' has been in great form throughout the competition and he's a standout 10/11 shot to secure his ninth win on Thursday.

Suljovic should brush aside wrong Wright

Peter Wright v Mensur Suljovic

The already eliminated Peter Wright take on fifth-placed Mensur Suljovic. It's a terrific chance for Suljovic to seize the initiative against an out-of-form 'Snakebite' and the rest of the chasing pack. Suljovic stormed back to salvage a draw in Birmingham last week and has been the surprise package in this year's event after only losing four games.

Wright might as well have stayed at home during this tournament and had his cheques posted. He has only beaten Raymond van Baneveld and a Contender this season and looks unlikely to get another win. The flamboyany Scot has lost his strut.

"I will give my best, of course. Peter is not in good form, but he is my friend," Suljovic has said his week. "I will be happy with a 7-7 draw against Peter, honestly. He's a good player and he has nothing to lose, but I will give my best."

The Austrian is being kind to his great friend and plays down his hopes to take the pressure off. If he doesn't claim the win points he will be feeling far less amiable. The traders can now see Wright as an also-ran and have begun to price him accordingly, but the one of the best bets of the night is on Suljovic to win at 10/11 to ensure he enters the final fortnight inside the top four.

Gurney going for MVG treble

Daryl Gurney v Michael van Gerwen

Live on Sky Sports Darts

Michael van Gerwen is in his customary Premier League top spot and has his ticket for The 02 in his back pocket. The 'Green Machine' faces Daryl Gurney who is in sixth-place and only one point behind the three men in third to fifth. It's tight!

The two men have met 22 times and MVG has won on 18 occasions. Gurney however has taken the last two matches and a third win on the bounce would put him firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish. If 'Super Chin' is going to get past MVG he must take his chances and that could be where he falls down. His double hitting has been his Achilles heel and MVG never leaves the door open long.

MVG is back to his best after claiming the German Open, German Darts Grand Prix and European Darts Open titles in the last five weeks. In their previous Premier League encounter this year Gurney won 7-5 on a night where MVG's average dipped below three-figures. Gurney faces a tougher task on Thursday but has the game to run the world number one close.

Best Bet: Back Daryl Gurney +2.5 on the alternative match handicap against Michael van Gerwen @ 11/10 (1 unit)

A crunch match and a tough game to call

James Wade v Gerwyn Price
Thursday, 19:15
Live on Sky Sports Darts

Third-placed James Wade takes on Gerwyn Price in fourth in a pivotal match for both players. It really is a massive game to end the Premier League's visit to Manchester.

If one of these men can secure a win it will take them clear in third spot and a whisker away from from The O2. Wade has been in great form of late and should shade this match against a more inconsistent Price. Wade is in the strongest position of those on the tail of the top two as his leg difference is superior. A win against the Welshman would just about guarantee his stay for the London Play-Offs.

This is a tough match to call between two quality opponents and it may be wise to look for value beyond the match winner market. This promises to be a long match where each player is tasked to bring their A-game. When they met in Round 11 it was a 7-7 draw when Gurney hit seven 190s to Wade's one. I'm looking to the 180s markets.
