Premier League Darts Night 11 Tips: Gurney seeking Wade revenge in Liverpool

Daryl Gurney Premier League darts
Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney seeking revenge for 7-0 defeat to James Wade earlier in Premier League season

We head to Liverpool this weeks for the 2019 Premier League matches. With only three points spanning third to sixth in the table it promises to be a cracker. James Buttler finds the best bets...

"Wade was beaten 8-6 by Suljovic last week and Gurney went down 8-4 to Cross. Whoever bounces back best cements their top four aspirations. There is also 'previous' in this season's Premier League after Wade demolished Gurney 7-0 a month ago. The Northern Irishman will be determined to redress the balance.."

Voltage to see off a snake with no bite

Rob Cross v Peter Wright

Live on Sky Sports Darts

The first match on the oche on a tantalising night in Liverpool sees Rob Cross and Peter Wright face-off with five weeks to stake their claim for a spot on Finals Night at The O2. It is tough to side against Cross in this one. He's top of the pile, seeking a third consecutive win and his seventh in eight matches as he takes on a Wright that has lost his dazzle.

'Voltage' is averaging 100.3 this season, beat 'Snakebite' in the European Open semi-finals and should go better than the 6-6 draw these two produced in Week One. Wright has got himself into good positions this season but lacked the killer punch. This is almost a must win for Wright who is loitering in seventh place with just two wins to his name and no win in three. This should be a routine win for Cross, but I want more than the very fair 5/6 on him to win.

Best Bet: Back Rob Cross to win -2.5 on the handicap @ 9/4. (1 unit)

Play Price to topple Mensur

Gerwyn Price v Mensur Suljovic

Mensur Suljovic has surprised a few this season and currently occupies third spot after claiming five wins and two draws from the 10 rounds played. He's three points clear of Gerwyn Price, in sixth, and a win on Thursday would be a big stride towards Finals Night. Suljovic is getting better as the tournament progresses with four wins in his last five games

Although price is sixth, he is only one point short of James Wade in fourth and has dominated encounters with 'The Gentle' in the past, leading 10-4 from the 14 previous matchups.

Price had a tendency to blow hot and cold, whereas Suljovic just keeps on playing decent darts. With the Austrian priced at 6/4 I can see why people with back him, but the onus is on Price to perform and with his past successes, I'm taking the Welshman at 13/10 to add to his tally.

Best Bet: Back Gerwyn Price to beat Mensur Suljovic @ 13/10 (1 unit)

180s the way in to close encounter

James Wade v Daryl Gurney
Thursday, 20:45
Live on Sky Sports Darts

There is little to choose between fourth placed James Wade and fifth Daryl Gurney in what could turn out to be a crucial match in the overall scheme of things. It's the one I am looking forward to with Wade is in the top four courtesy of a superior leg count and a win would be a massive result for either man.

Wade was beaten 8-6 by Suljovic last week and Gurney went down 8-4 to Cross. Whoever bounces back best cements their top four aspirations. There is also 'previous' in this season's Premier League after Wade demolished Gurney 7-0 a month ago. The Northern Irishman will be determined to redress the balance.

The 7-7 draw is a strong contender in this one and at 7/2 could be worth a look, but these two have also been scoring heavily this season. In a longer match, which allows them both to settle, expect some big visits. Wade has 34 180s in the Premier League this year and Gurney 24. Those numbers are set to go up big time!

Best Bet: Back both players to throw four or more 180s in James Wade v Daryl Gurney @ 4/1 (2 units)

180s the way in to close encounter

Michael Smith v Michael van Gerwen
Thursday, 21:30
Live on Sky Sports Darts

The two Michaels meet again in a repeat of the Week One encounter. last year's Premier League final and also the 2019 World Darts Championship final. Michael van Gerwen emerged victorious on each occasion and Michael Smith will need to improve in his 7-5 defeat on the opening night to rekindle his fading hopes of qualification.

MVG averaged 105 in that win against 'Bully Boy' and, although he's had his ups and downs in recent weeks, will have taken a lot of heart from fighting back from 5-1 down to Gerwyn Price last week to scrap a 7-7 draw. MVG doesn't do second in this event and will be seeking maximum points to knock Rob Cross off the top.

Smith meanwhile has endured a tough Premier League campaign and sits bottom of the pile and three points short of the qualification mark. A win over MVG would be a great start to a dynamic comeback run, but I cannot see it happening. While the outright price on MVG at 4/11 is short, expect Smith to push him in Liverpool, so have a look at the 180s markets.

Best Bet: Back over 6.5 180s in Michael Smith v Michael van Gerwen @ 10/11 (1 unit)
